About the Service - Housing & Homelessness Services
A safe home is the solid base from which you build your life. We support people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of becoming homeless, as well as providing specialist accommodation and outreach services for rough sleepers, veterans, survivors of domestic abuse, women and young people.
Accommodation to us doesn’t just mean a roof over your head and shelter from the elements. It needs to be a welcoming and flourishing environment, offering opportunities for all those we support to feel comfortable and develop. About the Job
Please note this role is part time - 20 hours.
The role will be contributing to the development of Changing Lives to become an outstanding organisation which integrates socially excluded people back into society and aims to provide security and stability to those in need.
The successful candidate will be a vital part of the team at Changing Lives. There are many different training and career development opportunities available within Changing Lives. This role has the potential to include overtime if requested/needed. Working pattern to be agreed when an offer of employment is made. It is desirable that applicants have prior experience of providing a maintenance service within the homeless/Supported Housing sector. It is essential for this role that you have a full UK driving licence and your own car with business use insurance. Millage expenses are paid in addition to salary.
* Ensure day to day repairs and maintenance tasks are prioritised and carried out on time and on budget.
* Tasks can include,but are not limited to, painting, changing locks, putting up shelves, building furniture, minor repairs as needed.
* Conduct regular inspections to identify improvements required in building and facilities.
* Ensure that the agreed maintenance cycle for improvements, cleaning and painting is carried out. Conduct annual PAT tests. (Training will be given)
* Conduct weekly fire alarm tests are undertaken and detailed records maintained.
* Engage with service users to promote volunteering activity for maintenance, gardening and painting.
* Managing any volunteering activity related to maintenance, gardening, cleaning and painting.
* Oversee the work of outside contractors for specific projects / work.
* Ensure that equipment and tools are not left unattended and are always secure.
* Support the preparation and repairs of rooms for new residents to move into.
* Support the maintenance and cleanliness of communal areas.
* Rectifying identified safety hazards related to buildings and facilities.
* Identifying and sourcing required building materials and equipment, in line with budgets identifying savings where possible, dealing with suppliers and negotiating on costs.
* All health and safety documentation and assessments are completed following health and safety arrangements to ensure compliance with legislation.
