About the Roles
We have exciting opportunities for Masterplanners / Urban Designers at multiple levels to join our growing Urban Design team in our Midlands office on a permanent basis.
With a diverse and expanding project portfolio for both private and public sector clients, were looking for talented designers ranging from Graduate level through to Associate level to work on high-profile, complex, and engaging projects.
Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned urban design professional, were interested in hearing from individuals passionate about delivering high-quality, creative, and deliverable design solutions.
Depending on type of experience, successful candidates will work on projects from new settlement scale through to detailed design concepts and residential layouts.
Key Responsibilities
Dependent on your experience level, your role may include:
1. Supporting or leading on medium to very large-scale residential and mixed-use masterplans for public and private sector clients.
2. Contributing to or managing multi-disciplinary projects, working alongside in-house teams including landscape, architecture, and planning.
3. Preparing and/or contributing to tender submissions, bids, and client presentations.
4. Conducting site, context, and character appraisals to inform design proposals.
5. Developing masterplan drawings, design strategies, detailed layouts, and illustrations.
6. Producing or supporting the preparation of Design Codes, Design and Access Statements, and graphic material.
7. Participating in or facilitating design workshops, public exhibitions, and community engagement activities.
8. (For more senior roles) Project management, client liaison, business development, and mentoring junior team members.
What Were Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates at a range of career stages. The ideal candidate will have:
For Graduate / Junior Urban Designers:
9. A postgraduate qualification in Urban Design (PG Dip or Masters), ideally with an undergraduate degree in Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline.
10. A strong design portfolio demonstrating creative and contextual thinking.
11. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, and/or 3D modelling tools.
12. Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
For Mid-Level to Senior Urban Designers:
13. Proven experience working on UK-based residential and mixed-use masterplans.
14. Strong project and time management skills, with a commercially aware approach.
15. Ability to manage or mentor junior staff and liaise directly with clients.
16. Confidence in producing and presenting design proposals, reports, and public consultation material.
17. A good understanding of the UK planning system.
For Associate-Level Candidates:
18. A strong track record of leading significant urban design and masterplanning projects.
19. Business development skills and a network of industry contacts.
20. Experience managing project teams, client accounts, and contributing to strategic business planning.
Additional requirements (all levels):
21. A passion for delivering creative, contextual, and sustainable design solutions.
22. Excellent graphic and written communication skills.
23. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
