NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff and delivering services to a population of over 1.15 million. This substantive Respiratory Consultant post will be based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) and will join an established Respiratory consultant team.
The shift pattern is 40 hours per week, over a 7‑day/on‑call commitment. The successful candidate will be responsible, with colleagues, for the care of both inpatients and outpatients with pulmonary hypertension and general respiratory problems. Care will be provided at QEUH, the Golden Jubilee Hospital, and outreach clinics at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Perth, as well as at associated sites in South Sector.
Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration, and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview. Extensive training in general respiratory medicine is required; an interest and relevant subspecialty experience in SPVU is desirable. Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Responsibilities include care provision for inpatients, outpatients, and virtual clinics, educational supervision and undergraduate teaching, and participation in professional activity sessions.
Some flexibility in timing of sessions is required, taking into account Bank Holidays, prospective cover in colleagues’ absence, and ward rounds.
The post is available from October 2025, but applicants who would start in subsequent months are also welcome.
