This is a 12-month secondment for Physician Associates wanting to gain experience in Old Age Psychiatry. They will be part of an expanding team of Physician Associates at a caring, award-winning organisation and one of the largest Health Boards in Wales.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
Based at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF), the Older Adult Mental Health Physician Associate will work closely with the nursing team, and alongside the trainee doctors, for day-to-day physical health care of inpatients, and liaising with other medical specialties when required. The post holder is expected to clerk patients in on admissions and perform the physical health checks and monitoring. The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary team to complete mental health assessments and risk assessments, as well as reviewing patients as required throughout the week and feeding back to the named consultant of the individual patients. The post holder will also be responsible for co-ordinating the weekly ward round with a visiting Care of the Elderly Consultant to ensure medical issues are dealt with swiftly.
When opportunities arise for other acute mental health practice or outpatient clinics with the supervising consultant, the post holder will have opportunities to develop further roles. Further, they are expected to communicate patients' progress and outcome of their inpatient stay or outpatient reviews including writing to GPs.
The Mental Health service will fully support your continuous professional development (CPD), by ensuring you are able to attend local teaching (MDT, Grand round etc) and supporting your external development by sponsoring appropriate external courses and conferences.

3. Successfully Completed Postgraduate Diploma (M-Level) in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised UK Training Programme
4. Current and valid Certification or Re Certification by the Physician Associate National Examination Board
5. Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Registry for Physicians Associate
6. Undertake Continuous directly observed procedural skills, case based discussions and Min Clinical examination exercises to maintain on-going certification with the PA Managed Voluntary Register or equivalent
7. Basic Life Support (BLS)
