About the role
With Vinarchy expanding operations across Europe, we are strengthening our compliance team to ensure our customs and excise responsibilities are met not only in the UK but also across all relevant European jurisdictions. We are seeking a candidate with extensive knowledge and a strong track record in European customs and excise regulations, with a clear understanding of how best to operate in this market in a compliant fashion.
This role oversees third-party service providerssuch as warehouses and freight forwarderswho manage Customs & Excise (C&E) movements on Vinarchys behalf, including movement and storage ofof product under suspension. The C&E Specialist ensures that all activities conducted on behalf of Vinarchy remain fully compliant with applicable UK and Eurepean regulations.
Purpose of the Role To ensure that all Vinarchy-related C&E movements, transactions, and processes across both the UK and Europe are handled accurately, timely, and in full compliance with applicable legislation.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Ensure full compliance with UK and EU import/export regulations, including customs entries, Intrastat, tariff codes, and excise duties.
* Monitor compliance across Vinarchy and third-party providers, driving change management and process improvements.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs legislation and proactively implement regulatory changes.
* Manage all Customs & Excise obligations, including due diligence manuals and operational procedures.
* Maintain and update risk registers, communicating issues and resolutions to stakeholders and authorities.
* Oversee shipments, Incoterms, licensing, and documentation for smooth clearance and audit readiness.
* Liaise with customs authorities and service providers to ensure timely and accurate declarations.
* Process supplementary customs declarations via UK TSS and EU systems.
* Collect, validate, and archive import/export documentation; ensure timely closure of movements.
* Track and reconcile duties, tariffs, and VAT; identify reclaim opportunities and resolve discrepancies.
* Prepare forecasts and reconciliations for duties and taxes; support accounting with cost modelling.
* Manage bonded/suspended warehousing, destruction/drawback claims, and suspended movements.
* Develop SOPs, manuals, and guides to support compliant operations and audits.
* Act as SME for Customs & Excise, supporting internal teams and business development.
* Ensure accurate system setup for suppliers, customers, and products; oversee payment controls and credential usage.
Key Requirements:
* Deep understanding of European and UK customs and excise regulations.
* Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel or equivalent tools.
* Experience managing third-party service providers and customs audits.
* Proven ability to drive compliance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence.
What Youll Bring:
* GCSE or equivalent English and Maths
* A sound, comprehensive and up to date knowledge of HMRC C&E regulations and procedures as they impact Vinarchy.
* Numeracy, Literacy and Communication Skills.
* HMRC Alcoholic Beverages.
* Understanding of legislation & regulation.
* Bond, Import / Export experience.
* JDE, Descartes or similar ERP/WMS systems within a Manufacturing and Distributing environment advanced Excel analysis skills.
Functional:
* Alcoholic Beverage Customs and Excise.
* Import / Export / Bond experience.
* Advanced Excel (Pivots, look ups, reconciliations, variance analysis, etc).
