We are a three-site acute NHS trust with university hospital status through our partnership with Bournemouth University, managing an annual budget of £730m.
Our services are highly regarded, employing around 10,000 staff. We are developing state-of-the-art facilities with a £250m estates programme to meet current and future healthcare needs.
Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with over seven miles of sandy beaches, near the New Forest and the Purbecks, and less than three hours from London, our location offers excellent work/life balance opportunities. The towns of Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch provide vibrant communities and scenic landscapes.
We value diversity and inclusivity, encouraging applications from minority groups and supporting various staff networks, including Women's Network, BAME, Pride Network, and others. We are signed up to the Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant schemes.
Job overview
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join our existing ACCP programme within critical care. We aim to develop eight ACCPs over four years to enhance our critical care services.
The role involves extensive training aligned with the National competency framework for ACCPs and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Curriculum, leading to an MSc at the University of Plymouth and FICM membership. Candidates will be supernumerary for two years and will progress from Band 7 in training to Band 8a upon completing the MSc and FICM membership.
Applicants should be experienced clinicians with extensive critical care knowledge and skills, including eligibility for non-medical prescribing. An application to the Plymouth University ACCP course is also required, with interviews conducted jointly with UHD.
Main duties
ACCPs will work closely with the critical care team and medical colleagues, delivering autonomous or supervised care to critically ill patients across Level 1-3. Responsibilities include patient reviews on wards and in the Emergency Department. The role is vital for developing a flexible and sustainable critical care workforce, especially with the planned amalgamation of two units into a new facility on the Royal Bournemouth site.
The successful candidate will be motivated, a team player, and possess excellent communication skills, with a strong desire to develop within advanced clinical practice and contribute to the Trust's strategy.
Working for our organisation
Our values underpin our approach to patient care and staff relations. UHD is investing in service development and hospital infrastructure, with some services moving sites as part of strategic plans. Applicants should be aware that relocation may affect travel reimbursement policies.
