* Do you have planning experience and are looking for an exciting new opportunity?

* Do you have a passionfor our environment, regeneration and economic growth?

* Do you want a career in helping develop our area for the future?

Look no further! We are delighted to be recruiting for a Planning Officer to join our innovative and forward-thinking team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in shaping the long-term development of our Borough, with a particular focus on Planning Policy and the review of our Local Plan. As a Planning Officer, you will be instrumental in delivering our vision for economic growth and development.

Our Borough is a unique mix of urban settings, market towns, and rural areas - providing a dynamic environment to work across commercial, residential, and environmental projects. This variability makes the work within our team fulfilling and rewarding, and provides the opportunity to create a lasting and visible impact on the communities we serve.

In this role, you will:

* Prepare planning policy documents and associated evidence base.

* Play a key role in the review of our Local Plan.

* Support strategic planning initiatives that facilitate economic growth and environmental stewardship.

* Collaborate across departments and with external partners to deliver successful strategic outcomes.

This role would suit a team player who can operate both independently and collaboratively with a range of departments and external partners.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

* Planning experience and/or a recognised qualification in planning.

* Knowledge of Town and Country Planning and other related legislation.

* High attention to detail.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence.

In return, we can offer both the autonomy to make impactful decisions and the support needed to meet your potential.

Our Planning Officers are career-graded, allowing you to progress to higher grades as your experience and qualifications develop, provided there is work available at the higher level.

For more detailed information about the role, please refer to the Job Description/Person Specification and Career Grade document included in the Supporting Documents section.

We offer an excellent total reward package, including:

* A career-graded salary from £31,067 up to £42,708 (in line with qualifications and experience).

* 27 days annual leave per year rising to 32 with 5 years service (plus bank holidays). Ability to purchase additional leave is also available.

* Generous Pension Scheme through the LGPS with ability to pay extra and plan for retirement.

* Access to a number of other employee benefits including learning & development opportunities, a car lease scheme, discounts at high street and online retailers, an employee assistance programme and physiotherapy services.

And that’s not all – you can also work flexibly where you can work part of your week at home.

When not on-site or homeworking, you will be working in our brand-new modern office in central Stockton overlooking the River Tees, with excellent facilities including a Café and spaces for both collaborative and individual working.
