Position summary
We are looking for an exceptional manager who will be a key member of Hilton’s EMEA Energy & Environment team. The Carbon and Environment Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and executing data-driven strategies and action plans to reduce carbon emissions and ensure the company environmental short and long term ESG goals are met at the operational hotels in the EMEA region. This will include advancing the understanding of carbon and environment related regional and national legislation and innovation, relevant data collection and proactive validation, analytics and benchmarking, as well as supporting business compliance. This role will actively analyse and visualise hotel performance to identify opportunities for utility efficiency, waste management and other initiatives that reduce environmental and carbon footprint. This role will be a resident expert engaging with hotel teams, internal and external partners to provide expertise and support effective communication, delivery and monitoring of relevant initiatives.
General responsibilities cover (but are not limited to):
• Manage, develop, and support on-site execution of science-driven brand-agnostic environmental and carbon management initiatives and programs in EMEA operations.
• Drive progress towards Hilton’s ESG goals through advanced data analytics, effective hotel targeting, identifying, evaluation and recommendation of improvement opportunities, project management, sharing of best practices and direct support for hotel engineering teams on performance and carbon emissions optimisation.
• Develop and implement carbon management strategy and tools, and deliver site action plans, including climate change assessments and carbon audits.
• Advance destination, regional and national understanding of carbon-related legislation, and support compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in carbon management and sustainability.
• Deliver environmental and carbon innovation and technical expertise details to individual hotels, existing/future owners and regional engineering teams to establish optimal operating conditions.
• Engage with internal and external partners to support the effective communication, awareness raising, delivery and monitoring of environmental and carbon reduction initiatives in operations.
• Actively control the LightStay ESG management platform for EMEA, utilize and optimize the system and data quality, ensure data required for compliance is collected and best practices shared.
• Produce regular reports and statistics as required by area management.
This is a hybrid position with base location in Watford, and will on occasions require travel throughout EMEA.
What are we looking for?
Required qualifications
• Passionate about sustainability and carbon management
• Qualified in an energy / environmental science / sustainability / engineering related discipline – proven corporate experience in relevant field required
• Subject matter expert in environmental and carbon management with knowledge of relevant regulations and standards
• Strong data analytics skills including Microsoft Power Query and Power BI or similar tools with a track record of utilizing advanced analytics to optimize environmental performance
• Ability to interpret complex guidance, identify appropriate solutions and provide explanations/discuss with industry experts and non-experts
• A rigorous approach and attention to detail in both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to analyse performance, identify opportunities, make recommendations, establish targets, prioritise and take initiative
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization internally and externally
• A team player, resilient and positive, ability to work independently, engage, motivate and mentor others
• The highest standards of ethical behavior and absolute discretion with sensitive information
• Good time management with excellent organisational, planning and project management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, prioritise and be flexible to change their activities to reflect the key business need at that moment in time.
• Computer literate with excellent IT skills – Word, Excel, PowerBi, PowerPoint
Preferred qualifications
• Significant experience in environment, sustainability and carbon management
• Experience with renewable energy technologies, carbon accounting and reporting
• Relevant university degree or certification in carbon management or sustainability
• Experience working in multi-cultural or international settings
