Payroll Manager
Salary: £36,000
Location: Stamford, Lincolnshire
Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week
Hybrid: 2 days in the office preferred, with flexibility
We are partnered with an established and highly respected independent education provider is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of its in-house payroll function.
The opportunity
Sitting within the HR function and reporting to the HR Director, the Payroll Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of payroll for approximately 600 staff (including part-time employees).
This is a sole payroll position, supported by part-time assistance for Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) processing. The role offers full ownership of payroll operations, statutory compliance and systems oversight, while working closely with both HR and Finance.
Key responsibilities
* Managing the full end-to-end monthly payroll process
* Ensuring accurate and timely processing of salaries, statutory payments and salary variations
* Administering pension schemes, including TPS and other arrangements
* Submitting statutory returns and ensuring compliance with PAYE, NI and regulatory requirements
* Maintaining payroll systems, records and data integrity
* Handling employee pay queries and providing clear, professional guidance
* Supporting year-end processes and liaising with auditors and external bodies
* Contributing to financial reporting requirements
* Continuously reviewing and improving payroll systems and procedures
* Ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection standards
About you
* CIPP qualified
* Significant end-to-end payroll experience within a complex organisation
* Strong understanding of pay and grading structures and their practical application
* Confident user of payroll software packages
* Advanced Excel skills and strong Microsoft Office capability
* Strong understanding of how technology supports finance and payroll functions
* Highly organised, accurate and able to meet tight deadlines
* Able to quickly develop a detailed understanding of systems and processes
* Professional, discreet and collaborative in approach
Desirable:
* Experience within an educational setting
* Exposure to payroll system implementation or related project work
