You’re a highly skilled and safety-focused professional with a deep understanding of lifting equipment inspection and examination. You bring hands-on experience working within engineering, inspection, or industrial sectors, with expertise in the Thorough Examination of cranes, lifting machines, and supporting structures.
You’re confident in applying LOLER and PUWER regulations and capable of producing detailed engineering reports to support safety and compliance requirements. You communicate effectively, think critically under pressure, and consistently apply sound engineering judgment in complex environments.
Professional certifications such as LEEA Diplomas or SAFed accreditation are essential, and your technical background demonstrates your commitment to safety, accuracy, and professional excellence.
About the Role
As a Crane Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and reliability of lifting operations and equipment. You’ll be responsible for performing LOLER 9.2 Thorough Examinations, conducting load testing, and producing high-quality reports for a range of lifting assets, including overhead cranes, gantries, hoists, and runway systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct LOLER Regulation 9.2 Thorough Examinations, including load testing and first reports following installation.
* Inspect and evaluate overhead travelling cranes, gantries, electric chain hoists, and supporting runway systems.
* Act as a second-party witness during Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
* Prepare accurate, detailed, and technically robust engineering reports for client and duty holder review.
* Apply and interpret LOLER, PUWER, and relevant standards such as BS 7121, BS 2853:2011, and BS ISO 4309:2017.
* Identify critical load path elements and determine appropriate test coefficients from applicable guidance.
* Collaborate with clients and internal teams to schedule inspections, adhere to timelines, and ensure compliance.
* Maintain data integrity and quality in inspection and test documentation.
* Demonstrate a sound understanding of welding techniques and identify typical weld types during examinations.
