Cover Supervisor - Twynham School role at Dorset Council. This is a part-time post following 37 hours per week and may involve working across Twynham School and other sites within the Twynham Learning trust.
About The Post
We are looking to appoint a motivated and inspirational colleague with a passion for transforming the life chances of young people as a Cover Supervisor. You will supervise and support students who are engaged in learning activities during the short-term or unforeseen absence of their usual class or subject teacher. The Cover Supervisor team administers and supervises daily centralised detentions.
You will be based primarily at Twynham School but are likely to work regularly across both schools. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a progressive environment with professionals who are passionate about education. Responsibilities
* Join our high performing and progressive organisation
* Take sole responsibility for classes of students on a short-term basis
* Provide exceptional short-term cover for absent staff in collaboration with expert teachers
* Supervise and administer centralised detentions within a supportive team
* Register attendance and handle learner questions related to processes, procedures and resources
* Manage behaviour to maintain a constructive learning environment
* Respond to immediate problems or emergencies according to school policies
* Collect completed work and resources, returning them with comments on learning issues and progress
* Report back using the school’s referral procedures on behaviour and issues arising
* Apply originality and creativity to learning activities; support straightforward classroom assessments (e.g., marking)
* Use the school MIS to register students and inform colleagues of attendance, behaviour and rewards
* Supervise students from years 7-11 in a centralised detention room (3.15–4.15pm, every weekday)
* Maintain and manage behaviour in detention and facilitate completion of tasks
* Safeguarding responsibilities: promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in line with Safeguarding and Child Protection policies

* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (A*-C) including English and Mathematics
* Aspiring to pursue a career in education, possibly as a teacher

Essential
* Minimum 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English (or equivalent)
* A-level or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
* Very good numeracy and literacy skills
* Experience of general clerical/administrative work
* Training in relevant strategies for appropriate curriculum or learning area
* Ability to travel independently between TGS and Twynham School during the day
* Aspiring for a career working with children, potentially in teaching
* High-energy and passionate with a clear moral purpose
* Emotional resilience and the ability to inspire and relate to the whole community
* Ability to communicate with students, parents, colleagues and professionals
* Team player, comfortable with professional challenge
* Commitment to professional development and evidence-informed practice
