Our Market Access practice are looking for an experienced Consultant to join the team.
The energy transition is accelerating engagement in, access to, and evolution of energy markets globally. Monetisation of Renewables and Flexible Generation & Trading is a central theme for decarbonisation of global grids and energy markets. Every single energy trader, energy supplier, asset developer and network operator must understand how their role will change and their business models adapt to remain successful.
Our Market Access Team helps energy market participants translate strategy into operational reality – enabling them to implement the functional capabilities, processes and systems needed to thrive in dynamic and complex energy markets. As the sector transitions to decarbonised, flexible, and digital operating models, we support clients on the “so what” and “how” of delivering their ambition. That’s where you come in.
We are looking for consultants with a passion for structured problem solving, operating model design, business process definition, and system implementation – all with a strong foundation in energy market operations, trading, or asset management. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of commercial strategy, business design, and delivery execution – with a deep interest in the systems and structures that power energy businesses.
What you will be doing
You will be collaborating with our clients to:
1. Translate strategy into actionable trading, physical power operations and market access capability and solution designs for organisational structure, governance, processes, and capability development.
2. Define and implement business operating models for trading, optimisation, or commercial market access teams.
3. Lead or contribute to functional and technical requirements gathering for new systems ( optimisation platforms, forecasting tools, energy trading and risk management solutions etc.).
4. Run vendor selection processes including RFP development, vendor engagement, scoring, and implementation planning.
5. Design business processes across short-term trading, route-to-market operations, or flexibility optimisation.
6. Map capabilities and identify gaps across people, process, and technology dimensions.
7. Act as an implementation lead or advisor across major change programmes.
8. Support integration of new teams, systems, or assets following acquisitions or internal transformation.
9. Contribute to internal capability building, proposition development, and market insights.
Your skills and experience
You should bring a strong foundation in business and systems delivery – whether from industry, consulting, or a mix of both. You should bring:
10. Experience designing or implementing Trading operating models or processes in the energy, utilities, or trading sectors;
11. Exposure to project delivery environments, ideally with some mix of Agile and Waterfall methods;
12. Knowledge of revenue mechanisms for flexibility across multiple geographies ( BESS, DSR, gas peakers etc.), including ancillary services, balancing, capacity and wholesale markets;
13. Familiarity with trading or optimisation functions in GB or EU power/gas markets;
14. Direct experience of Flexibility and/or Renewables Trading capability development in GB or EU power/gas markets;
15. Capability to work independently to capture and translate business requirements into solution designs or functional specifications;
16. Strong communication and facilitation skills, particularly with cross-functional teams;
17. Comfort working across business and technical stakeholders to bridge understanding and align delivery;
18. Experience of growing client accounts or propositions through current or previous consulting engagements/experience;
19. Experience with capability or maturity models is a plus.
What a career at Baringa will give you
Putting People First.
Baringa is a People First company and wellbeing is at the forefront of our culture. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits. Some of these benefits include:
20. Generous Annual Leave Policy: We recognise everyone needs a well-deserved break. We provide our employees with 5 weeks of annual leave, fully available at the start of each year. In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
21. Flexible Working: We know that the ‘ideal’ work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives. To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.
22. Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.
23. Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing. We’ve introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.
24. Career Progression: No one develops at the same pace. That’s why we have quarterly rather than annual promotion reviews. We don’t have any quotas: if you’re ready and delivering at the right level, you’ll get that promotion.
25. Profit Share Scheme: All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme so everyone has a stake in the company’s success.
