Lecturer in Music – Musical Techniques (LTS)

Salary, Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum pro rata
The University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Music with a specialism in Musical Techniques within the School of Culture & Creative Arts. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering an excellent student experience through teaching, assessment, and administration for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Culture & Creative Arts, Music.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering, assessing, and marking two courses: Music Techniques, Foundation and Music Techniques, Intermediate. They will coordinate and manage this teaching and assessment with graduate teaching assistants.
This post is part-time (10.5 hours per week), fixed-term until 30th April 2026.

Job Purpose
To contribute to delivering an excellent student experience through teaching, assessment, administration, and scholarship in the School of Culture & Creative Arts, Music.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Deliver teaching, supervision, and assessment activities in Musical Techniques (melody writing, tonal harmony, counterpoint, etc.) at pre-Honours and Honours levels.
2. Manage course administration effectively, ensuring clear communication of assessment requirements and timely feedback.
3. Contribute to curriculum development supporting research-led and scholarly approaches to learning and assessment.
4. Utilize learning technologies to support course delivery, including blended and online formats.
5. Facilitate inclusive learning in face-to-face and online formats, promoting student participation and achievement.
6. Engage in scholarship through educational research and dissemination; participate in seminars and conferences.
7. Build effective relationships with students and support diverse learning needs.
8. Develop external partnerships for knowledge exchange and outreach, including widening access initiatives.
9. Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and other university activities.
10. Engage in professional development activities.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
12. Contribute to enhancing the university’s international profile in line with the Strategic Plan.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in a related discipline or relevant teaching experience.
* Broad and deep knowledge of Musical Techniques and teaching methods.
* Up-to-date understanding of the field with the ability to inspire students and provide pastoral care.
Skills:
* Effective communication of technical material, both orally and in writing.
* Knowledge of university policies, practices, and external sector awareness.
Experience:
* Planning and managing work within professional guidelines.
* Commitment to open research and supporting open educational practices.
* Supporting colleagues’ career development and fostering collegiality.
Desirable:
* Experience teaching Sonic Arts or related courses.
* Experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum pro rata.
