Job Summary
This office-based role supports the Microbiologist in microbiology, contamination control, and sterilization efforts. The Junior Microbiologist will analyze, support research, and ensure safety, compliance, and innovation, working closely with other departments to identify microbial contamination, develop new techniques, and contribute to organizational goals.
Responsibilities
* Review and file documentation such as sterilization certificates, validation reports, cleaning records, raw material certificates, environmental reports, and particle count results.
* Assist with internal, external, and supplier audits.
* Develop and maintain sterilization validation protocols for Gamma and EO sterilization according to ISO standards.
* Manage relationships with third-party testing labs, including coordinating bioburden, sterility, and endotoxin testing.
* Interpret microbiological test results and prepare reports and summaries.
* Review and approve external lab test protocols and reports.
* Contribute to risk assessments, root cause analyses, and investigations related to microbiology and sterilization.
* Support new product development and design transfer by advising on sterilization and microbiological standards.
* Perform environmental monitoring and particle counts as needed, analyzing trends and data.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives in microbiological processes.
Requirements
* Level 4 qualification or equivalent in microbiology, life sciences, or relevant experience.
* At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing or test laboratory environment.
* Knowledge of microbiology techniques and sterilization processes.
* Strong communication skills.
* Valid driver’s license.
Desirable
* Qualifications in life sciences or contamination control.
* Over 3 years’ experience in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or food sectors.
* Proactive and able to work independently.
Location & Working Pattern
Primary locations: Keele (IC4/5) & Trentham (E2).
Standard hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-16:00 or 9:00-17:00.
