Job Title: Freelance Communications Specialist Location: Swindon Head Office (with flexible home working) Reporting to: Marketing Operations Manager Hours: Freelance / Contractor - 1–2 days per week Background OutsideClinic was founded in 1997 and has developed to become a leading provider of ‘at home’ eye care and hearing care. The business has revenues of £40m and employs 300 people. The business provides services to the older population group, that find it challenging to visit the high street. Job Summary We are seeking a talented and proactive Communications Specialist to support our team on a freelance basis. You will play a key role in crafting engaging content that keeps our people informed, our patients connected, and our brand visible within the wider optics and audiology industry. Principle Accountabilities Plan, write, and edit internal and external newsletters for both our optical and hearing divisions. Collaborate with team leads to build an annual communications calendar and align content with key business milestones and awareness events. Regularly update “One Hub” – our internal communications platform – with fresh, relevant, and engaging content. Identify and write stories suitable for PR coverage and contribute content to industry publications such as Optometry Today, Optician Online, BSHAA, and others. Liaise with external press contacts to ensure positive and timely coverage of OutsideClinic’s developments. Develop and manage a consistent stream of new content (written, visual, or multimedia) to support our brand story and employee engagement. Ensure all communications are aligned with our tone of voice, values, and strategic goals. About You Proven experience in a communications, PR, or journalism role – ideally within healthcare or a related industry. Strong writing and editing skills, with an eye for detail and the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences. Experience with internal communications tools and platforms. Ability to identify and shape compelling stories from across the business. Confidence in managing stakeholder relationships and working independently. Solid understanding of PR principles and media engagement. This is an exciting and ongoing opportunity for the right person to become part of a passionate and purpose-driven team.
