Co Church was planted as St Matt’s from HTB in 2019 as a City Centre Resource Church (CCRC) with a special focus on reaching kids and families, young people and students in Exeter. Now five years later Co Church has planted into St Andrew’s Church in Exwick, forming a group of churches with shared vision, values and resources and local identity.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to develop and facilitate the delivery of ministry to young people aged 11-18, students and young adults aged 18-30 across our churches and locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES


Youth Ministry

* Lead and develop the youth ministry of Co Church locations (and other church locations we revitalise in future).
* Communicate the gospel in relevant and innovative ways to young people inside and outside the church.
* Safely recruit, build and lead a team of volunteers to inspire young people to live Jesus centred lives.
* Oversee weekly groups for younger youth (11-14s) alongside Sunday services.
* Run a weekly midweek group for older youth (15-18s).
* Build relationships with local schools, christian unions, churches and local youth charities.
* Connect with other youth workers and events across the HTB Network.


Student Ministry

* Assist in growing and developing the student ministry of Co Church across all church locations.
* Assist with leading and delivering our weekly Student Night.
* Deliver a great Freshers’ Week programme, with support from other staff and volunteers.
* Create social contexts for gathering students, integrating them into the fabric of the wider multigenerational church community.
* Maintain regular contact with the student community at Co Church through emails, social media and 121s.
* Supported by others, to provide pastoral care and discipleship of students and young adults.
* Galvanise a team of students and non-students to support and lead the student ministry with the help of others.
* Design and deliver a programme of events to engage students and young adults outside the church, especially Freshers.
* Be aware of the support services offered by the universities (counselling, medical, financial aid, societies) and develop good relationships with, and make good use of, these service

The person we are looking for is:

* Passionate about reaching and equipping the next generation to explore faith and encounter Jesus.
* An active follower of Jesus with an infectious faith.
* Able to lead and motivate others including volunteers, youth and students
* Able to cast vision and inspire others.
* Able to understand youth and student culture and able to communicate the gospel in innovative ways with creativity and sensitivity.
* Courageous and willing to take risks in developing appropriate content and new methods of connecting with those outside the church.
* Self motivated and adaptable to lead themselves and others.
* Able to learn quickly from success and failure to bring necessary change.
* A fun and positive team player who shares our values and can work well alongside the wider staff team.
* An excellent communicator in a variety of mediums.
* Organised, and able to manage their time effectively to prioritise tasks and workload.
* Committed to excellence in safeguarding culture and practice.
* Willing to serve and participate in the wider leadership of Co Church.


DESIRABLE SKILLS

* Previous experience of work alongside young people, students and young adults, whether inside or outside the church.
* A relevant qualification in youth work, student work or theology (Level 3 or above).
* Ability to deal with difficult situations and issues calmly and effectively.
* Excellent administration skills.


REQUIREMENTS

* Under the Equalities Act, it is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to be a practising member of the Church of England or another Christian church.
* Core working days are Sunday - Thursday
* Attendance at weekly Staff Meeting (Thursday)
* Available to work at Christmas services, Easter services and at other events when required. Time off in lieu will be granted in accordance with our ‘Managing Time’ policy.
* 6 Month Probationary period.
* Due to the nature of the role, an enhanced DBS is required.
