Aspiring Neurodevelopmental Practitioner – SEN / Mainstream School Experience

Are you passionate about supporting young people with neurodevelopmental differences such as autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences or communication needs?

Are you looking to build frontline experience that will prepare you for a career in neurodevelopmental support, educational psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, clinical psychology, or specialist SEN services?

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants for specialist SEN and mainstream schools in Maidenhead. This role offers powerful, hands-on experience supporting children and young people with neurodevelopmental needs who may require additional support with communication, regulation, sensory processing and learning.

Many pupils in these settings experience difficulties with emotional regulation, attention, executive functioning, sensory processing, or social communication. Your role will be to provide structure, consistency and positive support, helping them remain engaged in education and develop confidence in their abilities.

This role starts in April 2026, working Monday to Friday, term time only.

Pay: £101.40 per day

The schools are well connected by public transport, with parking available nearby.

Working as a Learning Support Assistant is excellent practical experience and strong preparation for future roles within SEN, neurodevelopmental services, therapy pathways and specialist education settings.

It allows you to develop the practical skills, behavioural understanding and professional confidence required to support neurodivergent children effectively.

Working in a specialist SEN or mainstream setting gives you direct exposure to:

1. Supporting children with autism spectrum conditions and ADHD
2. Understanding sensory processing differences and regulation strategies
3. Applying neurodiversity-affirming approaches
4. Learning de-escalation and emotional regulation techniques
5. Building trust with children who may struggle with communication or social interaction
6. Understanding how neurodevelopmental differences affect learning, attention and behaviour
7. The structure and expectations of SEN and specialist educational settings

You will see first-hand how the right support strategies, routine and understanding can significantly improve a child’s confidence, engagement and long-term outcomes.

This role is particularly valuable if you are aiming to move into:

13. Neurodevelopmental assessment or intervention roles

Most importantly, you will help demonstrate the value of education, inclusion and supportive environments in helping neurodivergent students thrive.

What You Will Be Doing

19. Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis
20. Helping students manage sensory or emotional triggers
21. Supporting communication, focus and engagement in lessons
22. Using calm, consistent approaches to support behaviour
23. Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
24. Encouraging routine, independence and problem-solving
25. Acting as a positive role model for regulation and resilience

Aspiring Neurodevelopmental Practitioner – Learning Support Assistant Maidenhead – Education and Training

We Would Love to Hear From You If You Have:

26. Experience in youth work, care, mentoring, SEN support or community services
27. A strong interest in neurodevelopment, psychology, SEN, therapy or education
28. Emotional resilience and a patient, structured approach
29. The ability to build rapport with neurodivergent young people
30. A genuine belief in inclusion and supporting every child to reach their potential

You do not need direct school experience. Your empathy, consistency and motivation to support neurodivergent young people are what matter most.

Full training is provided as part of your onboarding.
