An excellent opportunity has arisen for two Trainees (ST4-6 or MRCPsych qualified CT3) in a London Psychiatry training programme
You are invited to apply for these 12 month out of programme posts, starting in Aug 2025 and contribute to exciting developments in Medical Education at East London NHS Foundation Trust in our teaching partnership with Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
The posts are aimed at ST4-6s, or MRCPsych qualified CT3s, who wish to enhance their educational portfolio as part of their career development. These out of programme experience (OOPE) posts will provide opportunities to build personal teaching experience, develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and to undertake supervised educational research. It is aimed at outstanding trainees who wish to pursue a career as a clinical teacher.
The posts will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, Dr Helen Bruce. There will be opportunities to take part in the development of our new curriculum and scope for educational research.
You will be encouraged to generate publishable outputs, including conference presentations (national and international) and publications in peer reviewed medical and educational journals.

Main duties of the job
The post will offer generic adult learning opportunities allowing the Fellow to develop educational insight and capability. This will include lecturing and small group work with medical undergraduates, as well as multi-professional learning opportunities. Generic professionalism training opportunities will also be provided. Clinical skills training for undergraduates and postgraduates will form a significant part of the job description. The post holder will also be trained in work-place-based assessment methods and appraisal techniques.
The Fellow will be expected to build a generic clinical educational portfolio. When appropriate the Fellow will be encouraged to submit this portfolio for professional accreditation (if available) to the Academy of Medical Educators. The Fellow will be supported in producing this portfolio by an educational developmental appraisal process. Performance management and job planning will also provide feedback and quality assurance for the Faculty Development Unit at the London Deanery.
