CYPIT Occupational Therapy Advanced Practitioner: East

Are you an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist who is passionate about children with complex needs? Are you looking to work as part of a supportive team in a flexible working environment whilst earning HCAS? We have a new and exciting opportunity for a band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our team based at St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead.

Within this post you will have the opportunity to work as part of an experienced team of therapists in a mix of community settings, early years settings, homes and schools having independence and autonomy to manage your own caseload. You will be expected to deliver a high standard ofoccupational therapy care to children and young people with developmental and complex needs, therefore for this role we are looking for someone with a real passion for seeing young children reach their potential. You will be expected to lead on a specific clinical area of Occupational Therapy, e.g. DCD, enabling the team to further their knowledge, enthusiasm and evidence-based practice to the team.

Our core working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 - 17:00 but we can offer flexibility around this. The role will involve some travel but also leaves room for some home working. Permanent full-time position available, part-time options considered.


Main duties of the job

Provide high quality assessment and interventions for children and young people with developmental / complex needs

Function as a specialist autonomous clinician, supporting delivery of the CYPIT model and providing support to more junior staff

Contribute to defined projects and service development initiatives as requested

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records and provide written therapy plans and reports including contribution to the EHCP Assessment process and tribunals as required

Use the Care Aims care planning approach, impact-based clinical decision making, and associated outcome measures

Provide specialist clinical care including assessment, diagnosis and interventions, for a paediatric caseload

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:

* Be a qualified Occupational Therapist, with RCOT and HCPC registrations
* Have experience in assessing and treating 0-18 year olds with developmental and complex needs presentations
* Hold a full UK driving license, with access to using a vehicle for work purposes

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications/Training

* Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registered
* Member of a clinical interest group


Continuous Professional Development

* IT skills - proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
* Masters degree in relevant area OR evidence of relevant experience within area of specialism, together with relevant short courses and/or post graduate training within a relevant field
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent relevant post graduate courses


Previous Experience

* Evidence of experience in the field of specialism to a level of in depth knowledge and expertise
* Comprehensive range of supervisory experience
* Contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
* Experience of working with families from a wide variety of backgrounds including age and ethnicity.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* High level of clinical knowledge and skill appropriate area of specialism
* Ability to pass on skills/knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments
* Ability to provide leadership to other team members
* Efficient, effective and diplomatic communication skills both written and verbal
* Evidence of a value system which puts the child at the heart of actions
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people in a broad sense.
* Knowledge of the English education system
* Able to use IT to support and innovate development
* Ability to work in a calm and confident manner in stressful situations
* Ability to work successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to self-motivate
* Ability to act as a role model and leader to others; in adopting change, imbedding new practice, supporting junior staff, and act as an ambassador for the CYPIT service
* Willingness and ability to take direction from others, and also to recognise when can act autonomously
* Ability to work across professional boundaries to effect seamless family care
* Awareness of the commissioning and provider landscape within children's services


Additional Requirements

* Willingness to attend additional training to support service delivery
* Car Driver with access to own car and willingness to work across Berkshire, as required
