Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a permanent, part-time post of 16 hours per week. (Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours. The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday.


Role

Fracture clinic are excited to announce a vacancy for a Health Care Support Worker to join our team based in Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated HCSW with effective communication skills to join our friendly team. In return we offer ongoing learning opportunities to support your learning and development.

As part of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialty, our Fracture Clinic provides care to a varied range of patients including trauma, major trauma, paediatric trauma, elective pre-listing and routine pre and post op elective orthopaedic patients. We support a multidisciplinary approach which includes nursing staff, consultants, and extended scope practitioners.

Plastering skills would not be expected; however there is opportunity to develop these skills. Wound care is expected of the post holder, which can sometimes require complex management.

Previous out-patient or fracture clinic experience would be preferable but not essential.


Responsibilities

* Provide wound care and participate in the management of complex wound cases.
* Support patients attending fracture clinic in a variety of contexts (trauma, elective pre-listing, pre/postoperative care).
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including nursing staff, consultants and extended scope practitioners.
* Develop plastering skills where appropriate and applicable to the role.
* Maintain effective communication with patients, families and the care team.


Qualifications and Skills

* Effective communication skills.
* Previous out-patient or fracture clinic experience is preferable but not essential.
