Job Title: Technician - Fashion, Textiles, and Print
The Technician will support sessions primarily in the Fashion, Textiles, and Print department, with potential secondments to assist the wider technical team across the School of Arts during exhibitions and shows. They should possess up-to-date industry knowledge and a strong understanding of the practical requirements of fashion and print disciplines. Responsibilities include supporting and preparing textile and fashion studio spaces, conducting equipment demonstrations, and managing health and safety passports for Levels 1, 2, and 3 Art. Additionally, technicians may deliver sessions on health and safety, safe working practices, and support learners in exhibiting and presenting their work.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain a safe, realistic, and well-organized working environment, fostering professional attitudes among students and supporting their skill development.
2. Support the effective operation and development of the curriculum, including equipment and learning area preparation, demonstrating, and supervising students in practical skills.
3. Perform routine maintenance of facilities, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and tidiness in accordance with health and safety regulations.
4. Maintain stock control systems, including storage, ordering, receipt of deliveries, and organization of equipment and materials.
5. Assist academic staff in providing health and safety inductions for students using workshop facilities, machinery, and safe working practices.
6. Support additional technical and support duties across the department, including preparation for open days and career events, and participate in team meetings.
7. Ensure studios and equipment are accessible and maintained for full-cost recovery and leisure courses.
Terms and Conditions:
Offers of work are conditional upon successful completion of mandatory pre-employment checks, including DBS, Barred List check, right to work verification, internet search, and TRA check for academic posts. Appointment is subject to a DBS check, good conduct certificate, satisfactory references, occupational health clearance, safeguarding understanding, and qualification verification. The role involves working within 'Regulated Activity' with children, requiring an Enhanced DBS check. It is an offense to apply if barred from regulated activity.
Person Specification:
* Minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject (Fashion, Textiles, Print).
* GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
* Previous support experience in fashion, textiles, and print.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations and experience in implementing procedures.
* Experience in using and maintaining relevant equipment.

Salary:
This is a pro-rata role with an annual salary of £16,508.59.
