The opportunity
The HVDC Engineering Plant Electrical Design department manages the auxiliary power system for HVDC stations. This complex system involves design, equipment specification, and coordination with stakeholders. The scope includes auxiliary transformers, switchgear, diesel generators, batteries, UPS, and cables. We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our growing team.
This hybrid role (2-3 days in the office) is based in Glasgow or Birmingham, with some international travel required for meetings, site supervision, and collaboration.
Note: We cannot provide visa support for this position.
How you’ll make an impact
* Be part of a global team responsible for auxiliary power equipment delivery, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality outcomes.
* Coordinate team tasks, liaise with other departments, customers, and suppliers.
* Manage auxiliary power SLD, load calculations, equipment dimensioning, and specifications.
* Review supplier drawings, oversee FAT, cable design, installation supervision, and commissioning.
* Align HVDC Base Design concepts with grid code and customer requirements.
Your background
* Several years of technical and leadership experience, including planning and delegation.
* Experience with auxiliary power, selectivity studies, or low voltage equipment installation/commissioning.
* Good knowledge of Grid Code, National Grid, SSE requirements.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Experience working in international teams or companies.
