Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Occupational Therapy

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our inpatient therapy team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) as an assistant practitioner. This permanent post is based with the in‑patient Occupational Therapy team at Furness General Hospital (FGH).
Our inpatient therapy team consists of Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants. The role involves providing assessment, treatment, and therapeutic intervention to maximise patients' functional ability across respiratory, oncology, care of the elderly, and surgical wards.
Responsibilities
Key duties include:
* Managing routine medical and surgical patient caseloads, including activities of daily living assessments and equipment provision.
* Supporting patient flow and clinical decision‑making independently.
* Engaging in manual handling tasks and accessing the community for environmental assessments and follow‑up visits.
* Participating in cross‑cover and MDT working with physiotherapists, nurses, and community integrated therapy staff.
* Receiving formal supervision, annual appraisal, and in‑service training.
Person Specification
Experience
* Recent experience working in an acute, rehabilitation, or community setting as Band 3 or 4 or above.
* Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree or availability to study towards this qualification.
* Knowledge of AHP core skills and occupational therapy within acute and/or rehabilitation inpatient services.
* Experience in manual handling and devising problem lists/guided goals.
* Demonstrated MDT working, communication skills, and implementation of clinical treatment programmes.
* Ability to work autonomously and understand scope of practice and accountability to team leaders.

* Ability to travel to provide assessment and treatment in the community.
