Pipe & Plate Fitters
Pay Rate:
Starting at £18.50 per hour, increasing to £19.50 per hour once qualified and deemed competent.
Contract:
12-week temporary to permanent position
Working Hours (Dayshift):
* Monday to Thursday: 7:54am – 4:30pm
* Friday: 7:54am – 1:30pm
Role Overview
An opportunity is available for experienced Pipe & Plate Fitters to join a busy fabrication environment. The role requires a high level of skill in interpreting technical drawings, fabricating complex components, and working with a wide range of materials and machinery.
Key Responsibilities
* Read, interpret, and understand complex engineering drawings
* Break down fabrication drawings into component parts to produce accurate cutting lists
* Carry out complex mathematical calculations, including trigonometry and use of π
* Develop patterns for complex fabrications such as cones, square-to-round transitions, pipe branches, and kinked hoppers, accounting for material thickness
* Set out and lay out jobs accurately, including levelling where required
* Measure, fit, and assemble components to a high standard
* Identify and correct distortion in fabricated components using oxyacetylene equipment
* Safely operate overhead cranes and carry out correct slinging techniques
* Work in compliance with all specifications, procedures, and health & safety requirements
Machinery & Equipment
Operate a variety of fabrication and cutting equipment, including:
* Guillotines, press brakes, pyramid rolls
* Universal ironworkers and section rollers
* Profile burners, plasma cutters, oxyacetylene cutting equipment
* Pillar and radial arm drills
* Band saws, circular saws, reciprocating saws
* Radiac cutters and smaller hand-held power tools such as magnetic drills, grinders, and plate bevellers
Welding Requirements
* Ability to tack weld using MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes
Materials
Work with a wide range of materials including:
* Carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys
* Thicknesses ranging from thin gauge sheet metal to heavy plate (150mm+)
* Various sections including plate, beams, columns, channels, angles, tubes, box sections, flats, and mesh
Overtime Rates
* Monday to Friday: Time + one third
* Saturday: Time + one half
* Sunday: Double time
