CSA Design Manager
London
Salary: £65,000 to £80,000
About the opportunity
I'm representing an established technical contractor looking to appoint a CSA Design Manager to support the delivery of complex construction projects.
This role will suit someone from a structural engineering, architectural or contractor-side design management background who wants to stay close to the technical side of the job and have real influence over how design is coordinated and delivered.
The focus is very much on the CSA package, particularly around steel structure, concrete and wider building fabric / interface management. It is a role for someone who is comfortable managing technical detail, driving coordination and helping ensure design information is developed in a way that actually works on site.
You could be just the right applicant for this job Read all associated information and make sure to apply.
The role
This is not a purely administrative design management role.
It is a delivery-connected position for someone who can take ownership of the CSA design process, work across consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal teams, and help turn design intent into coordinated, buildable information.
You will be involved from preconstruction through to live delivery, helping manage technical interfaces, design changes, package coordination and wider design risk across the lifecycle of the project.
Key responsibilities
* Manage the CSA design process from preconstruction through to live project delivery
* Oversee design information relating to steel structures, concrete works, envelope and associated CSA packages
* Coordinate consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal stakeholders to ensure information is aligned, complete and buildable
* Lead design reviews to identify clashes, gaps and interface issues before they affect programme or installation
* Work closely with project and site teams to manage RFIs, design changes and technical queries
* Support submittals, samples, mock-ups and technical approvals where required
* Track design progress against programme and highlight any impact on procurement, cost or delivery
* Act as a key point of coordination between design, commercial, procurement and project delivery teams
* Help protect design intent while also ensuring solutions are practical and deliverable on site
Requirements
* Experience in a Design Manager role or similar within construction or technical project delivery
* Background in structural engineering, architecture, CSA coordination or contractor-side design management
* Strong understanding of steel structures, concrete and wider CSA / building fabric interfaces
* Able to manage technical coordination across consultants, subcontractors and internal teams
* Good understanding of buildability, programme pressure and live project coordination
* Experience using AutoCAD, Revit and relevant design coordination tools
* Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge, coordinate and influence effectively
Why apply?
A lot of contractor-side design roles end up being heavier on process than substance.
This one offers more technical weight than that.
It should appeal to someone who wants to stay close to the engineering, take proper ownership of the CSA package, and play a real part in how complex projects are delivered. The environment will suit someone who enjoys solving interface problems, improving coordination and helping make sure design decisions stand up once work reaches site. xsngvjr
For the right person, this is a chance to join a contractor where buildability, coordination and technical quality all matter, in a role with more substance than a standard document-chasing design management position.
