The Community Services Director is seeking an individual to perform skilled work regarding the oversight, operation, and maintenance of wastewater pump stations, including various odor control systems and grit removal. The role also involves assisting with the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility (WWTF), as well as general operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems. Additional duties include general facility maintenance and public works operations as necessary.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position, offering a full benefits package. Compensation ranges from $26.26 to $38.03 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintain sewer pump stations, odor control equipment, and assist at the wastewater treatment plant to ensure safe and efficient collection, transport, and treatment of all city sanitary waste.
2. Inspect and repair wastewater pumps, generators, equipment, buildings, SCADA systems, electrical components, chemicals, and plumbing associated with pump stations.
3. Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on machinery such as pumps, motors, meters, and electrical circuits; rebuild engines and motors as needed.
4. Handle chemicals and manage bulk supply deliveries.
5. Perform general building maintenance, keep the environment clean, and assist with city-wide snow removal efforts.
6. Participate in on-call emergency coverage rotation and carry a pager as directed.
7. Maintain availability for emergency situations.
8. Represent the city professionally when interacting with the public, handling complaints, and ensuring water safety.
9. Create and input work orders into the system.
10. Maintain generators, checking fluids, belts, and recording fuel levels.
11. Assist with training new division employees.
12. Operate assigned vehicles and heavy equipment for work activities.
13. Assist with public works operations and respond to emergencies.
14. Prepare and maintain records related to wastewater pump station operations and maintenance.
15. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, agencies, and the public.
16. Follow safe work procedures related to assigned tasks.
17. Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of operation and maintenance techniques for wastewater systems, including odor control and grit removal. Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical repairs of pumps and control equipment. Proficiency with SCADA systems, including remote access. Some knowledge of underground pipe installation and general building maintenance. Ability to work safely in various environments, operate machinery and heavy equipment, read schematics and blueprints, write reports, and develop effective working relationships. Capable of responding to emergencies within 30 minutes.
Education, Licensure, and Certification Requirements
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of experience in plumbing, electrical repairs, or related mechanical maintenance, preferably in wastewater collection or treatment. Must hold and maintain NE Collection Systems Operator Certificate Grade III, a valid New Hampshire CDL B license with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements.
