Job Title: Transport Manager

Hours: 4 on 4 off, day shift 6am - 6pm
Salary: £40,817
Our client is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead a key operational division supporting one of their food retail contracts. In this role, you'll oversee the day-to-day management of drivers, fleet operations, and delivery activities to ensure they not only meet, but consistently exceed their client's expectations.
You'll be at the heart of ensuring high performance, safety, compliance, and operational excellence across your team.

Key Responsibilities:
. Fleet & HGV Management: Oversee a diverse fleet, ensuring vehicles are maintained, compliant, and cost-effective.
. Operational Leadership: Drive performance, manage resources efficiently, and maintain cost control without compromising service quality.
. Compliance: Ensure full adherence to legal requirements including operator licence regulations, drivers' hours, tachograph data, and working time directives.
. Safety & Incident Management: Lead investigations into any vehicle accidents or incidents, ensuring proper reporting and follow- through.
. Performance Management: Conduct regular driver reviews, tackle performance issues proactively, and manage ER cases in collaboration with HR.
. Team Leadership: Foster a positive team culture through strong communication, fair management, and visible leadership.
Skills & experience required:
. Proven experience in multi-drop transport operations and route planning.
. A confident and supportive people manager with excellent communication skills.
. Prior experience in a transport or logistics management role.
. Sound understanding of transport compliance, including driver hours and fleet legislation.
. Familiar with transport management systems and performance metrics.
. Comfortable managing accidents, disciplinary actions, and employee relations issues.
. Passionate about health & safety, site standards, and team wellbeing.
. A collaborative, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
. Strong working knowledge of HGV operations and fleet management.
. Previous experience managing transport operations at scale.
. Confident handling HR processes, including absence, grievance, and disciplinary matters.
. Ability to maintain a high level of compliance and safety standards.
