Offer description

This post could be considered as a secondment opportunity. Please discuss secondments with your line manager before you apply. For more information please check: Calling all social media professionals! The Bodleian Libraries has a fantastic Social Media Manager 12-month maternity cover position to join its dynamic and inclusive communications team. The role will be responsible for maintaining and amplifying our story and presence to a global audience in an engaging and collaborative way. The post would work as either a fixed-term contract or a secondment opportunity for the right person. This is a great chance for anyone working in social media within the University who would like more experience running the channels for one of the world’s leading academic libraries and tourist attractions. The chosen candidate will be an enthusiastic, imaginative team-player who is passionate about all things social media related, including creating content and campaigns and staying abreast of the latest platform developments and sector conversations. You will understand different audience needs and the importance of developing a balanced content calendar within a strategic framework for success. You will work alongside your communications peers in a fast-paced, open, and welcoming work space, where the lifeblood of the team is one of collaboration and mutual support. Our work encompasses Bodleian services and wider University needs, and you will lead on all organic social media processes and creating and sharing content across channels for these audiences. This includes content to support the public programme, reader services, and strategic messaging, such as reactive reputational issues and thought leadership, which will be agreed with the Head of Communications. This role also includes responsibility for the delivery of the internal communications newsletters to staff and library readers, so you will need to build on your already strong existing networks across the University to generate awareness and interest in Bodleian initiatives and events. Seeking inspiration from the topical news agenda and proactive information gathering from our rich and diverse collections, public programme, and the general Bodleian story, you will be responsible for feeding the ravenous content needs of our highly engaged audiences. This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 12 months to cover a maternity leave. We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered.
