An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in ophthalmology OPD located in Gledhow Wing, St James University Hospital and Seacroft Hospital.
Ophthalmology is the largest provider of specialist Ophthalmology service in the Yorkshire region and is extremely busy, we see both acute and clinic patients. As a senior clinical support worker, you will provide care to patients including undertaking appropriate tests and supporting them through their journey in the clinic. You will be required to prepare patients and support them during investigations and procedures such as injections to the eye, various types of surgery, post operative treatment and laser treatment. You will also be trained to undertake various investigations and administer eye drops to patients.
There will be opportunities for you to work in Ophthalmology subspecialties to further enhance your skills. Training will be provided.
We are advertising for full time and part time posts.
OOPD at St James is open 07:30 - 20:00 and Seacroft 08:00-18:00 Monday to Friday. There is a requirement to work on a rota basis at the weekend to provide support to acute patients who are seen in the outpatients department. This is between the hours of 08:00-18:00.
It is a busy, fast paced environment that requires a motivated and dynamic individual who is patient-centred, compassionate and sensitive to the needs of patients who are sight impaired. Many patients require a lot of reassurance and guidance therefore a calm.
Main duties of the job
Asa Clinical Support Worker in ophthalmology, you will work closely with themedical team, admin staff and other nursing colleagues to provide a smooth,caring and efficient service for patients. Your main responsibilities willinclude providing excellent care for patients whilst supporting them throughtheir journey on the day unit or in pre-assessment.
Thepost will involve supporting the nursing team and to rotate when requiredbetween both the SUJH and Seacroft Hospital, full training will be provided tothe successful candidate
