Overview
Role: English Teacher – Maternity Cover (with History as an additional subject) at Underley Garden School, part of Options Autism. Location: Underley Garden School, Kirkby Lonsdale, LA6 2DZ. Salary: Up to £41,000 per annum plus a Welcome Bonus of £1,000. Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Contract: Fixed Term | Term Time Only. Start: October 2026. UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.
We’re supporting a 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial where you can work one day less each week (or equivalent hours) while receiving full-time pay. About the Role
We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to deliver English to pupils with complex learning needs, spanning Key Stage 1 to Post-16. In addition to teaching English, you will deliver a small number of foundation subject lessons throughout the week. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and present a range of SEN including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), learning difficulties, mental health or medical needs, and associated behavioural challenges. The role requires a creative, flexible teacher who is genuinely passionate about working in a specialist environment where every pupil matters.
Responsibilities
* Deliver English to pupils across a wide age and ability range, including KS1 to Post-16.
* Deliver a small number of foundation subject lessons each week.
* Collaborate with a supportive team to plan, deliver, and assess learning activities.
* Contribute to a well-organised, well-resourced department with small class sizes.

Requirements
* UK QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent
* Experience or strong interest in working with pupils with SEN/ASC
* The ability to teach English across a wide age and ability range
* Confidence to deliver some foundation subject content
* Nurturing, resilient, and flexible approach
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
