IDEX Biometrics (IDEX) designs and develops fingerprint biometric solutions used in smart cards, mobile devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) products. We are moving from development into large-scale production while also working on next-generation technologies. We are recruiting for a graduate or entry-level system validation engineer to join our UK-based system engineering team. This role is offered as a 6-month contract and provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience working on real products within a professional engineering environment. Tasks and responsibilities: With guidance and support from senior engineers, you will help test and validate biometric sensor systems. Your responsibilities may include: Assisting with system-level testing and validation of fingerprint sensors, such as: Testing different use cases Checking resistance to electrical noise Measuring power consumption Assessing image quality and biometric performance Supporting regulatory testing (e.g. EMI, ESD) Working with system engineers and architects to understand system requirements and how they are tested Assist with system integration and testing of sub-systems Supporting the development of automated test setups Writing simple scripts or using tools to analyse test data Documenting test results clearly and accurately Required Experience: We do not expect you to be an expert. We are looking for someone eager to learn and grow. Essential: Basic understanding of electronics, embedded systems, or engineering principles Some experience (academic or project-based) with testing, validation, or lab work Familiarity with data analysis using Python or MATLAB (coursework is fine) Willingness to learn hands-on testing and debugging techniques Nice to have (not required): Exposure to biometric sensors, imaging systems, or signal processing Experience with embedded hardware or software projects Interest in automation or scripting Education: Degree (or working toward a degree) in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related subject Strong academic projects or internships can substitute for industry experience Personal capabilities: Curious and enthusiastic about electronics and technology Organised and able to manage tasks with support from the team Comfortable working both independently and with others Open to learning new tools, technologies, and areas of the business Motivated to take responsibility and grow your technical skills
