Older Persons Mental Health Nurse
Closing date: 03 May 2026
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated and professional Registered Mental Health/General/Learning Disability Nurse to complement our supportive Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) inpatient team. We provide patient‑centered, holistic assessment and support for people living with an advanced dementia who are experiencing complex and distressing symptoms. We also provide ongoing support to patients’ carers, recognising the essential and valuable role they play. We provide a supportive learning environment for all staff, including newly qualified registrants and the ongoing development for all nurses.
We work closely with our sister OPMH ward at Gosport War Memorial. Our sister ward provides assessment and treatment for older adults experiencing a crisis in their mental health.
This vacancy is for our dementia ward; however, to support continued development, the successful candidate will be encouraged to work across both of our wards to provide an opportunity to develop core mental health skills in a functional mental health and dementia ward setting.
Due to the potential complex health needs of older adults, our teams are also supported and required to develop physical health assessment skills to ensure the safe and early recognition of the deteriorating patient.
All staff will be asked to work flexibly across a range of day and night shifts providing care for older people with functional mental health needs or with dementia.
