Job Summary
We are seeking a professional and reliable HGV Driver Class 2 (Permanent) to join our team.
The ideal candidate will hold a valid CDL and possess experience in commercial driving. Commercial Driver's Licence (CDL) required - Class 2 licence is essential, class 1 is preferably but not essential. A clean driving licence is also essential. The position is available for immediate start.
This role involves operating a multiple lorry types to ensure the safe and timely transportation of goods across various locations. The successful applicant will play a vital part in maintaining our high standards of service and safety on the road.
You will be required to use company owned and fuelled vehicles. There are no additional fees chargeable to the driver related to the vehicles and work carried out during this requirement.
You will be required to deliver throughout Scotland, Northern England and possibly, on occasion, further afield in the UK and to Northern Ireland.
Expected hours 39-50 hours per week on a full-time contract however we will consider applicants who can work part time. May include some work at weekends and on occasion may include some overnights during May/June peak nursery season.
Hourly rate of pay exceeds national minimum wage (£14 per hour).
Our main site is based in Loanhead, EH20 9QG. We are located on an easy bus route from Edinburgh - 37/47. Please ensure you are happy with your journey method and time to our premises prior to applying. Successful candidates will be required to report to one of our bases (Loanhead or Peebles) each working day for loading and unloading depending on the driving requirements for the specific day.
Responsibilities
* Safely operate a Class 2 HGV lorry as well as the other vehicles in our fleet, in accordance with all legal and company regulations
* Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to meet deadlines
* Secure loads properly to prevent movement during transit
* You will be required to load and unload your vehicle
* Adhere to all health and safety protocols during driving and loading activities
Primary delivery requirements:
* Deliver woodchip, logs and other products as required, between our sites and throughout EH postcodes in a van and potentially an articulated vehicle if you hold a class 1 licence
* Moving plants between our main base and satellite nursery in 7.5 tonne vehicle, 18 tonne vehicle and potentially an articulated vehicle if you hold a class 1 licence
* Deliveries to EH postcodes on behalf of our garden centre in van, 7.5 tonne vehicle and 18 tonne vehicle
* Deliveries of plants to nursery customers in 7.5 tonne vehicle, 18 tonne vehicle and potentially an articulated vehicle if you hold a class 1 licence
Job Requirements
* Valid Category C (Class 2) CDL licence recognised in the UK
* Clean driving licence
* Proven experience in commercial driving
* Delivery driver experience is highly desirable
* Ability to safely and securely load cargo
* Good communication skills and a professional attitude
* Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading tasks
