ABOUT REPAIR CAFE WALES
Repair Cafe Wales is a large charity dedicated to building a culture of repair and reuse across Wales. We support anetwork of over 140 volunteer-led repair cafés, where communities come together to fix broken household items, share skills, and reduce waste. Our vision is to see a repair café in every community in Wales.
Repair cafes are pop-up initiatives where members of the public bring items in to be fixed by volunteers for free. Our talented volunteers fix all kinds of items including clothing, household electricals, bikes, toys and furniture- keeping these items in use for longer and out of landfill.
Since 2017, we have:
* Fixed 21245 items
* Have a fixing success rate of 82.3%
* Saved local people over £1m
* Saved carbon emissions of 698,960 kg Co2e
* Launched Wales first high street repair and reuse space- REMAKE Newport
Beyond the environmental benefits, repair cafes also provide inclusive warm spaces where local people can come together, feel more connected to their community, and reduce loneliness and isolation. See a repair cafe in actionhere.
In January we published our new 5-year strategy which you can viewhere.

RCW’s VALUES
Repair cafés are a fun, social way to combat the general frustration with wasted materials, resources and a loss of skills. It’s a community, a space for empowerment and the site of transformation where people’s relationships with their household items shift from consumer to owner.
All employees, contractors and volunteers are required to operate in line with RCW’s core values:
* Waste Reduction– Repair cafés help household items be used for longer rather than throwing them away. This reduces the volume of raw materials and energy needed to make new products. It cuts CO2 emissions by reusing instead of manufacturing new products.
* Sharing Skills– By promoting a repairing culture and inviting each one of our visitors to sit with a volunteer repairer, repair cafés show appreciation for the people who have practical knowledge and ensure these valuable skills are getting passed on.
* Community Cohesion– Repair cafés promote social cohesion in the community by connecting local residents from very different backgrounds and with different motives with each other through an inspiring and low-key event.
