Net zero church buildings officer (fixed term, part time 21 hours per week)

Leeds
The Church of England
Posted: 12 August
Offer description

We are looking for someone to join our Church Buildings and Pastoral Reorganisation team as a Net Zero Church Buildings Officer.

The Diocese of Leeds has been awarded a Net Zero Capacity Building grant from the Archbishops’ Council, which has contributed to funding this post for the initial period of one year.

The Net Zero Church Buildings Officer will provide both general advice to all people in the diocese tasked with the care of church buildings and direct support to a focused group of churches, enabling their buildings to come closer to reaching carbon net zero. This will enable the use of church buildings for the wider benefit of the community as part of their holistic mission, whilst having minimal environmental impact and giving resilience and ongoing viability of these unique heritage assets.

The postholder will work alongside colleagues operating the statutory work of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches and will be a crucial part of the cross-team approach to working, as overseen by the Carbon Net Zero Programme Manager. They will join a dynamic group of colleagues creatively working towards environmental sustainability for schools, church buildings, clergy property and diocesan land.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a diocese which has piloted and pioneered many environmental initiatives within the Church of England. As Net Zero Church Buildings Officer, they will play a key role in delivering the diocese’s Saving Creation Strategy, with its aims to strive for carbon net zero by 2030. Through this, they will have the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills to ensure the environmental performance of historic churches is improved and their futures made brighter by adapting sensitively to current and future climate challenges.

The successful candidate will have experience of monitoring projects from inception to successful completion, with knowledge of historic buildings, environmental sustainability in the built environment and/or project management skills a distinct advantage. They will be a self-motivated but collaborative team player, with strong problem-solving and organisational skills, and highly skilled at understanding and communicating information in a clear manner.

The post is for a fixed one-year term initially, with a possibility of extension if funding can be secured. The package includes a competitive salary, flexi-time scheme, reimbursement of car and travelling expenses, an 8% non-contributory pension with an additional 5% matched contributions, hybrid working (50%),and hours (FTE 259 hours) annual leave including bank holidays and customary days a year (between Christmas and New Year)
