VIQU have partnered with a leading UK vehicle manufacturing organisation with a reputation for engineering quality, innovation and long-term product development. They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer into the Chassis Engineering team. This is a hands-on role covering concept design, detailed engineering, validation and production support, ideal for an engineer who wants full lifecycle ownership of their designs.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
• Identify engineering needs, define requirements and translate problems into effective design solutions
• Develop concepts, detailed designs and CAD models for chassis systems and components
• Produce high-quality drawings to BS8888 standards and accurate BOMs
• Communicate design intent and requirements to internal teams, suppliers and external partners
• Plan and support validation activities including DVP&R
• Provide engineering support to production to resolve build and assembly issues
• Investigate field and service issues, complete root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
• Support product launches and continuous improvement activities
• Work as part of a cross-functional engineering and manufacturing team
Key Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
• 3-5+ years experience in mechanical design engineering within automotive, specialist vehicles or heavy engineering
• Strong understanding of stress, strain, fatigue and manual engineering calculations
• Experience taking designs through the full product lifecycle
• Good knowledge of materials, structures and fastener technology
• Proficiency in CAD, ideally Solid Edge
• Experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles
• Accurate BOM creation and use of engineering change processes
• Exposure to manufacturing environments and resolving production issues
• Understanding of vehicle systems, with yellow goods or specialist vehicle experience preferred
• Knowledge of welding design, hydraulics, pressed components or FEA beneficial
• HNC, HND or Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering essential, degree level desirable
• Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset and ability to work autonomously
