Customer Assistant - Cafe - Bolton Middlebrook
Join our team at M&S as a Customer Assistant in our café, where you'll champion our food and drink offerings, offers, and services. We’re seeking passionate individuals who know the latest food and drink trends and are eager to share them with customers.
Saturday 12:00-16:00
Work pattern
* Week 1: Sunday 12:00-16:00; Tuesday 11:00-17:30; Thursday 11:00-17:30
* Week 2: Tuesday 11:00-17:30; Friday 11:00-17:30; Saturday 12:00-16:00
You’ll be a brand ambassador who’s ready to recommend and promote our delicious café menu. Through remarkable service you’ll make sure our customers feel truly valued every time they shop with us.
Responsibilities
* Be digitally confident and use our digital tools (digital menus and in-store devices) to enhance the customer experience.
* Work efficiently to avoid customer wait times while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
* Be a team player who helps create an inclusive café environment and supports colleagues and customers daily.
* Be flexible to work across various areas of the store and adapt to changing retail demands.
* Serve our customers efficiently on the shop floor and at service points; maintain presentation standards and store cleanliness.
* Utilise digital tools and communication channels to perform the role; share feedback to improve ways of working.
* Share knowledge with colleagues to build skill and confidence; take ownership of learning and development using digital learning resources.
* Understand daily sales targets, priorities, promotions and selling opportunities; demonstrate strong product knowledge.
* Engage with customers to understand their needs and make recommendations; align actions with store priorities.
* Complete tasks with pace in line with SOPs; minimise cost and waste through good process practices; follow safe and legal working practices.
Qualifications and capabilities
* Strong understanding of how M&S operates and its strategy.
* Attention to detail; ability to deliver high-quality work quickly.
* Open to feedback and proactive in seeking it.
* Self-motivated with clear personal objectives aligned to business plans.
* Curious and willing to challenge the status quo constructively.
* Effective communication; calm under pressure; good listener and relationship builder.
* Resilient to change and able to recover quickly from challenges.
* Good product knowledge and sales capability; adaptable in changing environments.
Technical Skills/Experience
* Experience contributing to store sales and cost control; ability to work across the store to achieve outcomes.
* Knowledge of customer shopping channels and digital tools; strong digital capability.
* Understand customer needs and spot selling opportunities; knowledge of VM principles is a plus.
