AWE is currently recruiting for a Trainee Health Physicist for the Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group, part of the Science function at AWE. The group provides legal and technical advice to internal and external customers on health and safety related to working with radioactive materials and other ionising radiation. The work covers a wide range of applications from nuclear facilities to national security operations.
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Salary: £29,490 - £44,230 (depending on suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).
Working pattern: 9-day working fortnight. Flexible working requests available; hybrid working is available on an informal, non-contractual basis (typically 3 days onsite per week).

Responsibilities
* Provide legal and technical advice to internal and external customers on health and safety in relation to radioactive materials and other sources of ionising radiation.
* Participate in a two-year health physicist training scheme with modules and placements around the business to develop world-class professionals.
* Continue toward professional accreditation as a Radiation Protection Adviser and Chartered status with the Radiation Protection Council.
* Work calmly in a priority-changing environment, manage your own workload, show initiative, maintain flexibility, and meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications
* Experience in health physics, dosimetry, environment, radioactive waste management, health and safety (ESH), or related fields; or a degree in science, technology or engineering, with a willingness to learn to become a radiation protection professional.
* Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
