Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive Pupil Referral Unit in Oldham. This specialist setting works with children and young people who are currently unable to access mainstream education, often due to social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs. The provision offers pupils a fresh start, a nurturing learning environment, and personalised pathways that help them reconnect with education and build essential life skills. The Role As a Teaching Assistant in this PRU, you will play a key part in providing a safe, structured and positive learning environment for pupils aged 5–16. Many of the pupils may display challenging behaviours, have communication difficulties, or require support with emotional regulation. Your role will involve building trusting relationships, boosting confidence and motivation, and helping each learner achieve their potential. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to ensure that every pupil receives tailored support that meets their academic, social and emotional needs. Key Responsibilities Delivering 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH and SEN needs Developing positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress Supporting emotional regulation and using de‑escalation strategies when required Adapting learning resources and activities in line with individual behaviour and support plans Promoting independence, self-esteem and positive behaviour Assisting with behaviour management using trauma‑informed and restorative approaches Helping to maintain a safe, caring and inclusive classroom environment Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral leads and external professionals Completing accurate records and documentation as needed What We’re Looking For Essential: A calm, confident and resilient approach when supporting pupils with behavioural or emotional needs A genuine desire to help vulnerable young people succeed Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to maintain consistent boundaries A willingness to support pupils’ personal, social and emotional development Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role Desirable: Previous experience in a PRU, SEMH provision, SEN school or youth work Apply Now If you’re passionate about making a difference and would like to join this nurturing and forward-thinking PRU, please contact Teaching Personnel or send your CV to apply.
