This role is within the Business and Corporate Tax team, responsible for delivering a mix of compliance and tax advisory services to owner‑managed companies and large international groups across diverse industries.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a portfolio of business tax clients, ensuring compliance requirements are met, building relationships, and identifying areas where Menzies can assist the client.
* Deliver tax advice and tax advisory projects in collaboration with colleagues across multiple Menzies business tax teams and other service lines.
* Identify wider opportunities and introduce other specialists within the firm.
* Assist with training and management of the business tax team.
* Advise and assist owner‑managed businesses (OMB) on succession planning, remuneration planning, timing of capital expenditure, and capital allowances planning.
* Maintain a working knowledge of tax areas affecting entrepreneurs, such as Business Asset Disposal Relief and Business Property Relief.
* Support entrepreneurial businesses throughout their lifecycle—including protecting and leveraging IP, determining the right business structure, incentivising staff, and expanding internationally.
* Advise on tax elements of equity incentivisation, such as the EMI option scheme.
* Engage in networking, proposal development, and growth of the corporate tax portfolio.
* Identify opportunities for tax planning, risk mitigation, and cross‑selling between service lines to provide proactive, effective client service.
* Train and mentor junior colleagues within the Business Tax team.
* Ensure the firm’s technical, ethical, risk, and compliance procedures are adhered to in all cases.
Qualifications & Skills
* Qualified accountant and/or CIOT qualified tax adviser with at least one year’s post‑qualified experience in a tax‑related role.
* Experience working with corporate and entrepreneurial clients, managing at an assistant manager or manager level.
* Corporate tax technical and practical knowledge.
* Good knowledge of tax issues affecting owner‑managed businesses and their shareholders.
* Knowledge of other business taxes and tax reporting processes is preferable but not essential.
* Knowledge of UK accounting standards and competence in interpreting accounts and other financial information.
* Strong IT skills, including MS Office and databases; AlphaTax experience is ideal but not essential.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
