1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Darlington

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and emotionally resilient 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in KS1 with specific and complex special educational needs, including SEMH. This role requires a person-centred approach, patience, and the ability to adapt creatively to support a child’s learning, wellbeing, and independence throughout the school day.
About the Role:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support to a named pupil with bespoke learning, sensory, and/or emotional needs.
* Implement strategies outlined in the pupil's EHCP and work closely with the SENCo, external specialists, and class teacher.
* Help to establish routine, reduce anxiety, and develop self-regulation strategies through a nurturing and structured approach.
* Deliver targeted interventions, facilitate communication, and support transitions and social interactions.
* Maintain clear, professional communication with staff and parents, contributing to reviews and daily reports.
The ideal candidate will:
* Have experience working with children with complex or high-level SEN needs in a school or specialist setting.
* Be familiar with strategies for supporting children with autism, anxiety, sensory regulation needs, or SEMH.
* Demonstrate a calm, consistent, and emotionally robust approach to behaviour and communication.
* Be confident working independently while remaining part of a collaborative support team.
* Hold a relevant TA or SEN qualification (or be willing to undertake further training as needed).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
