Role: Laboratory Technician - Sample Preparation and Physical Analysis
Location: Par Moor Centre, PL24 2SQ, St Austell, Cornwall
Salary: £22K
Hours: 37.5h
Shift pattern: 1st Week - 7am-3pm and 2nd Week- 2pm to 10pm (M-F)
Contract: FTC (9 months)
The role:
You will provide support to the SPPA (Sample Preparation and Physical Analysis) department in carrying out analytical projects.
Your responsibilities:
As a Laboratory Technician you will be expected to work within the guidelines set out within the Quality Management System in order to deliver the required performance to support the company’s requirements and assure accuracy, validity and timely reporting of test results whilst;
* Performing test measurements at laboratory scale following Approved Test Methods and Good Laboratory Practices signed off by the Laboratory Manager.
* Assuring results are accurately recorded, and reported, in a timely fashion and following the agreed quality checks.
* Contributing to the ISO9001 accreditation of the SPPA team by following the daily and weekly instrument checks, calibration procedures, quality control sample monitoring, and proving method competency.
* Identifying instrument performance issues and in consultation with management rectifying the issue, reporting non-conformities and deviating samples.
* Contributing to the safe operation of the team by following health and safety guidelines agreed with the Laboratory Manager.
* Identify mechanisms to improve performance by reporting of unsafe conditions and health and safety related incidents.
* Following approved guidelines on the safe use and storage of chemicals.

Your ideal skills:
* 5 GCSEs Grade C or above (essential),
* NVQ level 3 or A level in relevant subject, or equivalent (desired).
* Must be able to work within a laboratory environment, including the safe use of laboratory equipment and chemicals, as well as following correct manual handling procedures.
* Basic spreadsheet and word document skills (MS Office and/or Google Docs/Sheets),
* Deadline conscious,
* Attention to detail,
* Use of LIMS (not essential)
* Safety conscious,
* Basic problem solving and decision-making abilities
