We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a highly regulated engineering and manufacturing environment supporting major nuclear and defence projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a QA/QC professional with experience in regulated industries such as Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Defence, Aerospace or Heavy Engineering to play a key role in ensuring compliance, traceability and quality assurance throughout complex engineering projects.
The Role
You will support project delivery by overseeing quality assurance, supplier quality activities, inspections and compliance across fabrication, welding, testing and installation activities.
Working closely with engineering, project and manufacturing teams, you will ensure all products and processes meet contractual, regulatory and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and QA/QC procedures
Conduct internal and supplier audits
Manage non-conformances, root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions
Review manufacturing documentation, LTQRs, quality records and inspection reports
Support supplier qualification and surveillance activities
Carry out inspections on fabricated equipment and assemblies
Witness testing activities including FAT and SAT
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AQAP and regulated industry quality standards
Support welding, NDT and material traceability activities
Coordinate third-party inspections and client witness activities
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality systems and processes
Requirements
Previous experience within Nuclear, Defence, Oil & Gas, Aerospace or another highly regulated industry
Strong understanding of QA/QC systems and manufacturing quality processes
Experience with NCRs, CAPA, root cause analysis and auditing
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation
Knowledge of welding, fabrication and inspection activities
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and regulated industry standards
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Excellent attention to detail and documentation control experience
Desirable
CSWIP, PCN or other welding/NDT certifications
Lead Auditor qualification
Experience with AS9100, AQAP or nuclear quality requirements
HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification
Lean / Six Sigma exposure
CQI membership or working towards professional accreditation
Willingness to travel to sites nationally and even internationally
