Engineering Apprentice - Maintenance Team
Due to our client expanding and acquiring new customers, they are seeking to recruit an Engineering Apprentice to join their maintenance team.
Shift: afternoons/evening
Start and Finish Times: 11:30-22:00 Mon-Thursday, with flexibility on Friday and weekends (weekend/flexibility required)
Reports To: Engineering Manager, Engineering supervision, Works Manager
Indirect Reports: Manufacturing Director, Supervisors
Job Description:
Working closely with our qualified team of mechanical and electrical engineers, you will observe, learn, and understand fundamental engineering skills to support your long-term development. Your role will help enhance your skills, improve the reliability of manufacturing equipment, and optimize plant performance across two manufacturing plants. These facilities produce high-quality ductile iron and steel castings for turbo, manifold, and general engineering sectors, maintaining the company's high standards.

* Subject to aspiration and performance, sponsored progression through college on a part-time basis, with support and mentoring from trainer organizations.
* Experience in foundry processes and equipment is preferred but not essential.
* Determined, organized, disciplined, and committed to working safely with tools and equipment.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure a safe working environment for all.
* Conduct regular checks and maintenance of moulding boxes.
* Understand and comply with company processes and procedures.
* Work independently and complete tasks promptly.
* Assist in engineering projects when possible.
* Collect data, conduct research, and assist in problem-solving.
* Read and interpret technical drawings.
* Participate in training related to installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of manufacturing equipment.
* Undertake fault diagnosis and repairs in a heavy engineering foundry environment.
* Participate in risk assessments and safety checks.
* Maintain tools and equipment in safe and organized conditions.
* Maintain cleanliness of work areas.
* Engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Functions:

* Work safely with equipment and wear appropriate PPE.
* Report unsafe or illegal practices to management.
* Uphold health and safety policies and manual handling guidelines.
* Handle waste and spillages safely.
* Record accidents and near misses accurately.
* Follow permit-to-work procedures for non-routine activities.
* Collaborate with H&S advisors to improve compliance.
* Assist in installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of equipment.
* Identify projects to optimize plant performance and reduce costs.
* Support development and scheduling of preventative maintenance systems.
* Manage electrical equipment, wiring, motors, switches, and spares.
* Develop knowledge for diagnosing and fixing faulty equipment to ensure safety and productivity.
* Respect company purchasing procedures.
* Recommend projects to improve engineering applications and business performance.
* Identify root causes of downtime and suggest improvements.
* Operate hydraulic, pneumatic, and electric equipment safely.
* Report concerns related to equipment and casting quality.
* Assist team members with daily tasks.
* Check and maintain stock levels of spares and critical components.
* Liaise with suppliers and stockists.
