Overview
Health Protection Nurse vacancy in the Westmorland and Furness Council Health Protection Team. This is a permanent part-time position working 22.5 hours per week.
The postholder will support the Public Health Manager - Health Protection in assuring that statutory responsibilities in relation to health protection are effectively discharged in relation to the development, implementation and assurance of local health protection programmes, including health emergency planning, promotion of national screening and immunisation programmes and community infection prevention and control.
Responsibilities
* To assist the Public Health Manager - Health Protection in assuring the Director of Public Health that statutory responsibilities in relation to health protection are effectively discharged, including the implementation and assurance of local health protection programmes for Westmorland and Furness, including community infection prevention and control.
* To provide Infection Prevention and Control advice and support across Westmorland and Furness to protect health and reduce communicable diseases and Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI).
* To uphold policies and standards for Infection Prevention and Control underpinning the commissioning of safe and effective health and care services.
* To provide risk assessment support and specialist advice and guidance in relation to Infection Prevention and Control measures in emergency situations.
* To support communication and delivery of health protection plans and programmes of work, including escalation of concerns as appropriate.
* To participate in the management of outbreaks of communicable disease, ensuring effective control measures are implemented to protect public health.
* To maintain effective relationships with key partners, including NHS organisations covering Cumbria and the UK Health Security Agency.
* To deliver a high quality, needs-led infection prevention and control service and provide evidence-based IPC advice to staff, patients, carers, independent contractors, schools, nursing and residential homes, and other organisations as required.
* To contribute to achievement of HCAI targets and promote best practice in infection prevention.
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Nurse level 1
* Current NMC registration
* Evidence of post-qualification continuing professional development
Desirable
* Competent knowledge of common infectious diseases and their management and control
