The role of the Financial Controller is a vital role within the Accounts Team at Echo and plays a pivotal role in keeping the financial reporting, planning, debt management, and budget management organised and up to date. The role requires you to be analytical, numerical and have excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines. The Financial Controller will be responsible for working closely with the Accounts Manager, and other finance team memebrs, so strong personal and communication skills alongside confident leadership and management skills are a must. At Echo, our workflow approach is a hybrid. Dependent on the nature of the works, we combine the structured predictability of the Waterfall method with the flexible adaptability of Agile. This necessitates that all our team members are comfortable and proficient in both approaches, ensuring seamless integration and adaptability according to project demands. The nature of our industry is that working ad hoc additional hours, or out of normal working hours, can be expected as a normal function of this role. Main Duties AND Responsibilities: UNIVERSAL Operating with integrity – performing whole and complete work for and with all Echo colleagues, clients and suppliers alike. Ensuring Echo House maintains its status as an industry leading team of dynamic, proactive & professional specialists. In depth training is provided as a core part of all new starters’ induction. In addition, with such a nuanced and bespoke business, on–the–job learning remains the single most effective way to learn what we do and how we do it. CORE KNOWLEDGE BASE Financial Analysis and Reporting : Analysing financial data, preparing accurate reports, and providing insights to support decision-making. Budgeting and Forecasting : Creating and managing budgets, monitoring performance against targets, and adjusting forecasts as needed. Regulatory Compliance : Staying up to date with UK financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards. Leadership and Communication : Managing the finance team, collaborating with other departments, and presenting financial information to stakeholders. IT Proficiency : Familiarity with financial software, ERPs, and data analytics tools. CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Ensure that all company secretarial responsibilities are met and that all statutory declarations and reports are filed on time. Support the Accounts Manager in providing regular sales reports and manage work in progress to ensure that all work is invoiced accurately and on a timely basis. Lead the selection design and roll out of new financial accounting packages and the integration with other internal CRM and MIS systems. Manage the finance team and ensure that it is adequately resourced and supported. Manage relationship with auditors and professional advisors. MAIN DUTIES: Prepare and present monthly consolidated management accounts. Prepare annual forecast and budgets. Report performance against KPI’s and forecast. To work with the Human Resources and Training Coordinator to prepare monthly payroll submission for external payroll agent and manage and review monthly payroll files before submitting for payment. Maintain and review a Fixed Asset Register Ensure that all company ledgers are up to date and accurate bookkeeping is managed and reviewed. Support the Accounts Manager in reviewing debtors and ensure that overdue balances are promptly identified and collected. Manage and monitor annual rebate agreements. Prepare audit files and supporting information. Review and approve legal documents including Supplier contracts and supplier and client NDA’s. Create a financial operations manual and ensure that financial processes and procedures are fully recorded and reviewed on a regular basis. Manage the banking relationships and treasury function, optimise cashflow. Check and approve Corporation tax computations and ensure that all tax liabilities are made on time. Prepare and submit VAT returns. Review VAT on sales and review all export jobs and ensure correct VAT treatment has been applied. Identify ways to enhance financial efficiency, by cutting costs, and boosting profits. GENERAL Echo is a dynamic, busy company with a close working team and as such we sometimes require our employees to work on additional bespoke projects outside of their daily duties. This is also aimed to encourage and broaden individual skills and ambitions. To perform other reasonable tasks as required by the Directors or your department head. Promote sustainable operations to colleagues, clients and suppliers. ESSENTIAL INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTICS: Degree in Accounting, ACCA or equivalent. Excellent time management. Excellent organisational skills. Excellent attention to detail. Individual diligence with a focus on team participation. Level-headed approach to demanding circumstances. Good leadership skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Experience in the graphics and creative production industry. Ability to clearly communicate instructions to a team. Flexibility and willingness to provide practical support where necessary. Good Excel and MS Office knowledge and practical experience. A quick learner with a positive approach will pick up everything they need to know at Echo. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and a quick learner in general operational software.
