Brighton College is seeking to appoint College Protection Officers to join our College Protection team on a full-time, permanent basis.


Main Purpose of the Role

To be one of the first points of contact for visitors, staff and pupils visiting Brighton College, as well as on‑site residents, on‑call officers and the nursing team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage situations calmly are essential. A SIA Door Supervisor licence is desirable but not required; those without the qualification will complete the required training.


Responsibilities

* Provide five‑star customer service at all times.
* Provide clear, concise and accurate information to all visitors, governors, staff and pupils in a professional manner.
* Ensure all interactions are handled with courtesy and respect, even in challenging situations.
* Provide security/concierge front‑of‑house presence on College properties.
* Be proactive regarding the security of the College, Prep School, and off‑site premises.
* Be alert for possible intruders.
* Man the Security Lodge when not required elsewhere.
* Liaise with organisers of events being held during duty shift, including external clients, College staff and pupils.
* Ensure the safety and security of pupils, staff and governors on campus.
* Ensure the safety and security of visitors to the College.
* Monitor traffic and traffic control at specified times.
* Conduct basic investigations and report writing.
* Unlock and secure exits, entrances and buildings on College premises at designated times.
* Conduct random patrols of College grounds and buildings.
* Respond to alarms (fire, burglar, etc.).
* Respond to emergency calls from staff, pupils and the Health Centre.
* Attend mandatory training for the SIA Door Supervisor licence (if required) and any re‑occurring refresher training.
* Respond to any other reasonable management request.


Person Specifications

* Customer service experience (essential).
* Genuine interest in working within a school setting.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to stay calm in demanding situations.
* Friendly and approachable manner.
* Ability to interact with all types of people with courtesy and tact.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Good IT skills.
* Hold a current SIA Door Supervisor qualification (desirable).


Hours of Work

40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) on a rota system between 06:30 and 23:00. This will be five out of seven days per week, including some weekends and bank holidays. Depending on the shift worked, the actual hours per week may differ, but over a seven‑week rota the average will not exceed 40 hours. Flexibility with working hours is essential. Overtime at generous rates is available on occasion.


Holidays

23 days, plus bank holidays, increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service (of which 3 days must be taken between Christmas and New Year when the College is closed).
