About Us

Job Title: FM Electrical Engineer (Trainee)

Salary Range: £, - £, per annum (starting salary dependent on experience)

Permanent - Full Time

Location – Wandsworth Town Hall, room, SW PU and York House, Richmond Road, Twickenham, TW AA

Other essential information: This role requires the candidate to work from various locations across Richmond and Wandsworth depending on business need. This role also required you to be part of a call out rota and work unsocial hours at times to support committee meetings.

In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and improving a diverse corporate building portfolio of around properties across Richmond and Wandsworth. You will contribute directly to creating safe, compliant and well‑functioning environments for staff, service users and visitors. Your work enables our Corporate Facilities Management (FM) service to deliver reliable, high‑quality operations that support the day‑to‑day running of council services.

Our FM service covers a wide range of essential activities, including:

1. Reactive and planned maintenance (including statutory compliance)
2. Small works and project delivery
3. Cleaning, postal and print services
4. Energy management and decarbonisation
5. Halls and events management

As an Electrician within this team, your work will ensure our buildings meet required standards, remain safe, and operate efficiently.

What You Will Be Responsible For

You will use your technical expertise to support the safe and continuous operation of electrical systems across the corporate estate. Your role will include:

6. Installing, inspecting and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment across council buildings
7. Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in systems and machinery
8. Ensuring all work complies with wiring and health & safety regulations
9. Testing electrical systems using appropriate tools and equipment
10. Responding promptly to emergency breakdowns and service requests
11. Supporting and maintaining AV / webcasting equipment for Council Committee meetings
12. Keeping accurate records of work completed and materials used
13. Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and the wider FM team

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

14. Strong knowledge of electrical systems and components
15. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
16. Excellent problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills
17. Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety
18. Effective communication and teamwork abilities
19. A commitment to continuous service improvement and sustainability

Qualifications & Experience

20. NVQ Level in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
21. th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
22. Proven experience as an electrician in a commercial or industrial environment
23. Strong understanding of health and safety requirements
24. Experience working with Audio Visual technology
