Commissioning Maintenance Engineer - EFW
£500 - £550 p/d (Outside IR35)

Alecto Recruitment is partnered with a market leader in the Waste to Energy space and is seeking an experienced Commissioning Maintenance Engineer with a background in Energy-from-Waste or power generation to support commissioning and early operations at a new build power station.

End Date: 31 August 2026
Day Rate: £500-£550
Key Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical works in accordance with EfW commissioning requirements, maintaining compliance with HSEQ standards, project schedules, and contractual obligations
Support plant start-up activities, including fault diagnosis, system verification, and equipment readiness checks
Monitor plant performance and troubleshoot issues across boilers, rotating equipment, and auxiliary systems
Collaborate closely with commissioning and operations teams to resolve technical issues in a timely and effective manner
Report deviations, risks, and performance concerns to the Commissioning Manager
Undertake mechanical tasks, including pump overhauls, filter replacements, lubrication, and general system maintenance
Keep plant equipment in a clean, safe, and fully operational condition throughout the commissioning phase
Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, including the provision of spares, consumables, and resources
Log all activities within CMMS / PAMELA systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation
Assist with sampling and testing activities (e.g. water, oil, waste streams, IBA) as required
Qualifications & Experience
Demonstrable experience within EfW, biomass, or thermal power plant environments in a commissioning or maintenance role
Solid knowledge of boilers, steam systems, rotating equipment, and balance of plant
Background in supporting commissioning, start-up, or planned outage activities
Valid safety certification (CCNSG, CSCS, SCC or equivalent)
Good working knowledge of HSEQ standards and safe plant operations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach
Able to perform effectively in a live commissioning environment under pressure
Capable of working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary site teams
Clear and confident communicator, able to engage across engineering and operations functions
Safety-first mindset with a proactive approach to risk identification and management
