LOCATION: London
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200- £51,200 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Purpose
Join the BBC News Channel team at the heart of live news production. As a Senior Journalist, you’ll lead fast-paced, breaking news output and flagship programmes, ensuring accuracy and impact across TV and streaming platforms.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Lead live and continuous news output with speed and accuracy.
* Curate, commission, and deliver high-quality news coverage.
* Mentor and manage journalists, researchers, and freelancers.
* Coordinate with BBC News teams to amplify content across platforms.
* Work flexibly as part of a 24/7 rota, including weekends and overnights.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Outstanding skills in a live news gallery: reacting quickly and calmly to breaking news.
* Strong editorial judgment and confidence in making major decisions.
* Excellent communication skills, written and spoken English.
* Creative approach to storytelling for TV, streaming, and digital platforms.
* Technical and organisational expertise in running orders, video editing, and graphics.
Desired But Not Required
* Experience in outside broadcasts.
* Knowledge of emerging digital trends and audience behaviours.
* Leadership experience in high-pressure environments.
* Familiarity with BBC editorial guidelines and diversity policies.
* Ability to innovate in visual and interactive news formats.
